Sketching Sgt. Stripes

Sketching Sgt. Stripes

A couple of ‘kitten action’ sketches. The top left one was actually a few days ago, young wobbly-kitten-walking. Now we have progressed: that disembowelling hold and kick is hard-wired, and Sgt. Stripes is practising on Wormy, who seems to enjoy it. Both sketched from a moving kitten, so highly polished drawings are not to be expected…

Cat-seedling

I have an electric propagator. It is basically a plastic tray with an electric heater beneath its surface, so that when you put pots of seeds on top the steady gentle heat warms the soil and encourages the seeds to germinate. It hasn’t been used much this year, but it’s being put to good use now to help bring on one very tiny, plump cat-seedling.

Sergeant Stripes

Sergeant Stripes is alive and well!

Sergeant Stripes came to us yesterday at less than 4 weeks old. It is possible that some very awful people abandoned him, what is certain is that some very caring people rescued him at what was probably a week old and that at the same time a seagull was deprived of his dinner.
‘Stripes’, now promoted to Sergeant Stripes, is ginger and white with a sooty tail, but has so far not stayed still long enough for a portrait sitting for me to put in his colours, so you will have to believe me.
Tomorrow, he will be 4 weeks old.

Listen to my Ears

Listen to my ears!

Percy is STARVING* and is expressing his anguish with all of the waggling his considerable ears can muster. He can keep this up for the full our between now and actual cat teatime at 5pm, his protest punctuated by a strident “MwaaaH” and finally a gentle claw in the backside.

* For the benefit of cat-lovers, I should add that no cats were in fact starved to make this drawing, that there is actually still food in Percy’s bowl, and that as soon as this sketch was finished I walked Percy to his bowl and he began to tuck in, thereby ensuring me about 20 minutes peace. Percy likes me to accompany him to his dinner bowl at regular intervals throughout the day.

Quality Control

I had a load of printed stuff delivered today – mostly, excitingly, the Colouring-in Angels… but I can’t tell you how they’ve come out yet, the delivery is still undergoing quality control by Arthur’s discerning furry bottom….
Arthur would like it pointed out that he is NOT on the kitchen table, Arthur’s bottom isn’t even within 12 inches of the kitchen table…

The Guarding is in Progress

The Gallery is Closed. Beware Guardcats

My exhibition is closed Mondays and Tuesdays and I have a few hours off! I may only have been open for two days and an evening so far but this exhibition has been some weeks in the preparation, and the sudden cessation of activities has left me a little unsure what to do with myself. So I drew some cats.

Meanwhile Percy is guarding the last Swimming Calendar by washing his bottom on it (it’s ok, it’s wrapped in cellophane and underneath a cloth). Freyja is observing in case Percy needs to take a break.

Yes, you did read that correctly, I have a single swimming calendar left (apart from a handful out in galleries). I am feeling rather pleased, thank you, all you swimming enthusiasts 🙂 . The cats are slightly unimpressed that it was more popular than pictures of themselves. If you still want one I shall be gathering orders and putting in another order at the printers in early November but I shall only be ordering as many as people have paid for at that point, there will be no spares, so do please let me know soon.

The Dragon(fly) Slayer

The Dragon(fly) Slayer

Freyja (a.k.a. The Nose-Beast, for reasons which should be abundantly clear), has gone hunting and has caught and slain a whole Dragon(fly). Very pleased with it she was, too, until she managed to poke it in underneath my behemoth of a plan chest, where, I suspect, it has joined a lot of biros. The plan chest is almost impossible to move, so there it will stay until the floor needs replacing.

I was a little sad for the Dragon(fly).

On another matter, Somerset Art Weeks have begun (the preparations for it have been the reason for the break in drawings), and my gallery space is full of my swimming drawings. There are cat-drawings too, as greetings cards. If you are in the area for the next fortnight, come and visit. Go to this page for the details.
