Nice Weather for (Rubber) Ducks

Nice Weather for (Rubber) Ducks

Vobster, yesterday. It was indeed fine weather for ducks. Fortunately there we were to take advantage of it: a flotilla of five rubber-clad ducks. Two of us training for Coniston-end-to-end, three for the Dart 10K; both end-of-the-summer long swims, though I have to say I think that the summer may have ended early.  It’s not like we weren’t going to get wet anyway, but cross your fingers if you would, for a bit of sunshine the weekend after next!

Wilting in a Wetsuit

Wilting in a Wetsuit

I never have really got on with wetsuits, and I hadn’t put mine on since last year. Apparently this was a grave tactical error, because it may still have looked like a wetsuit, but this is what it felt like! I don’t think I’ve put on any weight since I last wore it, and I have been told that they give with use and shrink back a bit when you don’t use them, but I never expected it to put up this much of a fight. It was for the Steart Island Swim yesterday, and the rubber things are compulsory. Fortunately only 2K as I think any further would have quite finished me off!

The Rubber People

The Rubber People

Our early Tuesday morning swim and the changing rooms, always deserted before, have become a disconcerting gothic scene of hanging rubber gimp suits! It is TEK Camp at Vobster and they have got here before us. These are not swimmers’ wetsuits, these are so reinforced, padded and booted they are practically people all on their own.
