Arthur has been doing the ironing. Ironing involves squashing fresh laundry flat with a warm object, therefore Arthur is ironing.

Nobody EVER feeds Percy! It is so long since Percy ate, he has literally never ever had any food at all. Ever. Apparently.
Being an artist, I can actually say “Come up and see my Etchings”, and mean actual etchings. Arthur has decided to Guard them this weekend. He needs to get guarding in at the weekend at the moment since we still have a house full of plumbers on work days, but he feels if he guards them well enough when he has the chance they will then be safe for the rest of the week.
This is Holgate Cat, who lives in London, with my sister and family. Holgate is not so much of a spring chicken as my bouncing boys, so we had a more sedate portrait session.
I didn’t think I would have the time today for a cat-of-the-day sketch, but then I walked into the studio and saw this:
I couldn’t really not.
I was in Venice for a couple of days last week, where I spectacularly failed to capture any of the beauty of this place. The trouble is that the beauty of Venice is rather hard to capture on a little phone (ok, it’s a huge phone, but it is still a phone, and therefore little compared to the grandeur of Venetian architecture). Plus, I am not really much good at architecture: I don’t have the patience for it.
So I drew a few of the tourists. Largely from memory as each one is seen only for a fleeting few seconds. In other words, I made it all up… I did, however, come back armed with ideas… and masks. Masks have been making their appearance in my ‘proper paintings’ for years now, so there is no reason why this will not continue, but now I have some ‘authentic’ versions to ponder.
Sadly, I saw only one cat in Venice. I am told there used to be lots. All the dogs are micro-sized though so perhaps, in the spirit of Venetian masquerade, they are really all cats in fancy-dress…
Oh, and the title of this blog comes from the fact that (I am told) 1% of all the world’s population visits Venice each year.
After some seconds away from my chair I get back to find there are cat hairs on it. So I do what any sensible person would do: I sit on the floor.
…and of course do this picture of the cat hairs until the cat hairs decide that I have spent long enough doing one continuous activity and get off the chair to disturb me. At least the chair is now mine again 😉
