Happy Ides of March, everyone!
I did this drawing yesterday (other than a little faffage and labelling today), as a Mother’s Day* card. The initial idea of a picture of Jellyfish and Trifle-fish was suggested by Mother last week, so it seemed only fitting that she got this as a card.
But I didn’t get a chance to post it here yesterday. Today is the Ides of March. popular in Roman times as a day by which debts should be settled (as discovered notably, and very briefly, by Julius Caesar…).
So perhaps this should be the day on which you ask:
Is there anyone to whom I owe cake?
Top left to bottom right:
Jellyfish
Ice Cream Fish
Fish-Cake (visible from above the water as only the tip of the Battenburg)
Victoria Sponges.
*she loved the card, so much that she completely forgot to remind me that “It’s Mothering Sunday, not ‘Mother’s Day’, which is an American invention”… either that or the International Society of Pedants** has been suspended owing to Lockdown.
**as opposed to the Pedant’s International Society, which is permanently suspended due to the fact that they cannot decide where to put the apostrophe.
