“Cake Zombies”
Shuffling and dribbling, with gaping mouths beneath woollen hats, their barely functioning brains comprehending just one word: “Cake?”
…it was the Monday nearest my birthday, so I had made cake and, because the lake had not yet reached a temperature at which the activity of swimming could be classed as ‘exercise’, I had got in just for a freezing dip. The better to deserve the cake.
Hilary had employed a similar strategy. Andy, Chris and Rita had not. They shuffled over.
“Cake zombies” uttered Andy, once he could marshal sufficient frozen brain cells to string the syllables together.

I admit, this is one of my favourite drawings from this year’s calendar collection. This is where pencil is a delight to work with, in that fine line between drawing solid objects and describing physical movement I think there would be a lot of territory to explore. If only my friends will continue to turn up and wobble about in this state and if only I can find the time to get some artwork done I would like to explore more of it. Fortunateley one of those conditions will exist for a few months now for sure. So that’s something….
