Frills & Chills

"Frills & Chills" drawing by Nancy Farmer. A swim at Poole inspired by World Tutu Day

It had rained and rained… and rained. It had probably rained on World Tutu Day – which is a Thing – and which actually happened on 2nd February. But on 10th February in Poole the weather was glorious, despite the floods which I drove through to get there. And that was the day that Sally had organized for this sublimely silly, inspired swim. Maybe Sally has a crystal ball. She certainly had perfect timing in posting up the swim event I just happened to see, and nudged me just at the right moment.

About 30 ladies – and one gentleman – tripped into the sea in a splendid flurry of multi-coloured tulle. I couldn’t capture everyone but here is a flavour of the morning’s scene. And so, I finally made it back to Poole …over seven years after I said I’d come back for another swim. Apparently my timing could use a little work: but what a wonderful day on which to return… I got that part right.

Some work in progress, and the original jottings in my sketchbook… which I am trying to make a habit of.

Some close-up details. The brighter images are a different scan, with different post-scan adjustment. This was a tricky one to display and print: On the screen, the bright images look a little glary and bright, but that file is absolutely the best one for making prints: it comes out very clean and lively looking.

Talking of prints, they are available here: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1702308471/ (message me if that link no longer works, I may not always have this listed in the shop, or I may have moved it.)
